Rebooting Research on Detecting Repackaged Android Apps: Literature Review and Benchmark
نویسندگان
چکیده
Repackaging is a serious threat to the Android ecosystem as it deprives app developers of their benefits, contributes spreading malware on users' devices, and increases workload market maintainers. In space six years, research around this specific issue has produced 57 approaches which do not readily scale millions apps or are only evaluated private datasets without, in general, tool support available community. Through systematic literature review subject, we argue that slowing down, where many state-of-the-art have reported high-performance rates closed datasets, unfortunately difficult replicate compare against. work, propose reboot repackaged detection by providing summarises challenges current solutions for detecting large dataset supports replications existing implications new directions. We hope these contributions will re-activate direction spark innovative going beyond state-of-the-art.

Detecting Privacy Leaks in Android Apps
The number of Android apps have grown explosively in recent years and the number of apps leaking private data have also grown. It is necessary to make sure all the apps are not leaking private data before putting them to the app markets and thereby a privacy leaks detection tool is needed. We propose a static taint analysis approach which leverages the control-flow graph (CFG) of apps to detect...
متن کاملDefining and Detecting Environment Discrimination in Android Apps
Environment discrimination — a program behaving differently on different platforms — is used in many contexts. For example, malware can use environment discrimination to thwart detection attempts: as malware detectors employ automated dynamic analysis while running the potentially malicious program in a virtualized environment, the malware author can make the program virtual environment-aware s...
متن کاملAndroid Benchmark
Every time a new phone hits the market, and often even before that, it is run through countless numbers of synthetic benchmarks that showcase its computing prowess. People rarely talk about real-world performance, and if they do, it is either anecdotal (“The phone feels very snappy”, “Only occasional hick-ups”, “Apps launch immediately”), or in the form of manual side-by-side app-launching comp...
متن کاملAppGuard - Enforcing User Requirements on Android Apps
The success of Android phones makes them a prominent target for malicious software, in particular since the Android permission system turned out to be inadequate to protect the user against security and privacy threats. This work presents AppGuard, a powerful and flexible system for the enforcement of user-customizable security policies on untrusted Android applications. AppGuard does not requi...
متن کاملOn Ad Library Updates in Android Apps
With more than 90% of mobile apps today being free-to-download, advertisement within apps is one of the key business models to generate revenue. Advertisements are served through the embedding of specialized code, i.e., ad libraries. Unlike other types of libraries, developers cannot ignore new versions of the embedded ad libraries or new ad libraries without risking a loss in revenue. However,...
